Home Sharing Not Working

Here's out routine (work out) every time we want to use Home Sharing:

  1. Open Apple TV on our smart TV.
  2. Go to the computer and turn on Home Sharing, which by the way requires a log in every time.
  3. Go back to the TV, attempt to open "Computers" and get a message to turn on Home Sharing.
  4. Go to the computer and turn off Home Sharing, turn Home Sharing back on, log in again.
  5. Go back to the TV, attempt to open "Computers" and get a message to turn on Home Sharing.
  6. Rinse, repeat, rinse repeat.
  7. We've tried every possible combination of sequences of the above.
  8. It does rarely end up working after 10-15 tries, which makes it even more frustrating.

Seriously considering returning our brand new 4th gen Apple TV, there's got to be something, anything, else that will do the same thing and actually work.

Absolutely infuriating. Help

Welcome to the Apple Community.


Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.


  1. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > System > Restart).
  2. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
  3. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
