Hi there, I need to transfer data from my old MacBook Pro2009 to this new Mac air and not sure which external hard drive to purchase for it? and this connecting port is different too so which cable will I need for the hard drive unless it is in included when purchasing? my memory stick is no use with this Mac Air if anyone has any advice on that. An old mama here learning!

There are lots of "good" ones out there, but I don't mind spending the bit extra on Other World Computing's products. I just bought a 1 TB external SSD with a USB-C connector. Works great and is about as fast as you can get since it has a 6G drive. That and with a direct USB-C connection, you get the highest possible transfer rate from an external source that isn't Thunderbolt 3.
