When using migration assistant to mob all from my old iMac to a new one, does the old OS transfer? Will it have any affect on the new computer?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

No. The OS is not moved.


Migration Assistant allows you to move the following:

  • Applications
  • Your user folder & contents
  • Other files & folders
  • Computer & network settings


In my opinion, however, if you are installing a new Mac you should do a fresh install of your applications on the new Mac rather than migrating them from your old Mac.
