Auto-Brightness on Mac not working

Hi, If I go into settings>displays and click the automatically adjust brightness box I find my screen frequently dims to the point where it is impossible to see. The only way I can fix this is to uncheck the box and set the brightness with the slider. Image below shows the settings it reverts to when the automatic brightness function is ticked. Is this a problem with my Mac?

Hi,

The sensor which adjusts screen brightness to your surroundings is next to the camera at the top of your screen. Make sure there is nothing covering the camera (a case, sticker, etc.)

If it doesn't, there is a possibility that the sensor is something wrong. Try to check with Apple Diagnostics if it reports something which related the sensor.

If it doesn't help, try to reset SMC which could solve the issue.
