MacOS Update Unavailable

Hi there,

I have realised that my MacBook Pro 2017 is still running on High Sierra and would like to update to a later macOS version. I do not understand why this update has not occurred automatically because my settings in System Preferences are such that it should have. If I try to automatically update via the "Software Update" button in "About this Mac", it does not work.

More importantly, when I look up macOS Catalina (or Mojave, for that matter) in the App Store, it only displays a "Download" button, rather than the usual "Get" button for free software.

When I execute the download, the App Store tells me it downloads. It isn't fast but eventually it downloads all 8.3 GB.

However, after that it fails to do anything further and the software/file cannot be found in the \Applications folder.

I have already tried restarting my MacBook and I have reset my PRAM.

Any help would be much appreciated!
