How to get rid of Search Barron virus?

3+ hours with apple support tier 1 and 2 and no one seems to know how to get rid of the "Search Barron" virus which among other things cause a search in Google to switch to Bing or Yahoo. Help!

Not a virus, But an adware.


Re-launch Safari with Shift key down, then delete History and Website Data from Safari preferences.

 

If the adware returns anyway, download and run the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You don’t need to upgrade to the paid version.

And/or...


Download and run EtreCheck. It’s free, safe and only runs when you launch it, so it doesn’t slow down your Mac.

Restore From a TMB:

You are using macOS 10.14. So, restore from a Time Machine Backup (TMB), prior to this occurrence.


Did you create a Time Machine Backup, prior to the upgrade? If not, take this as a learning experience, knowing to always backup your Mac prior to installing any update or any software, whatsoever.
