No video for Apple TV+

Apple TV works for YouTube videos, but only gives audio for Apple TV+ videos.

When playing YouTube videos, I can toggle back and forth between monitor to television.

But if I then go to the Apple TV+ movie "Greyhound", selecting Apple TV makes both the monitor and the TV go black. Audio is not affected.

  1. Restart the Apple TV (Settings ➔ General ➔ Restart on the Apple TV 2 & 3 and Settings ➔ System ➔ Restart on the Apple TV 4/4k).
  2. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
  3. Restart your router. (Also try removing its power cord for at least 30 seconds)
  4. Restart your mobile device or computer.

If your problem is AirPlaying from a computer, try disabling Bluetooth.

You might also try removing any other software related to screen sharing or streaming to remote displays that you might have installed at some time.

None of that helped. But I did find that:

  1. The movie trailer played perfectly on the iMac, and on the TV using AirPlay. AirPlay works for the trailer.
  2. But the movie itself only played with a black window and audio only, on both the iMac and TV.
  3. In that black window there is an X in the upper left corner. When that is clicked, the first frame of the movie appears on both the iMac and TV. AirPlay works for the first frame.
  4. However, pressing Resume to play the movie, turns the screens black again on the iMac and the TV.

Fortunately, I am able to watch the movie on the iMac as long as I don't try to use AirPlay to send it to the TV.
