the jpg photos that I import to keynote do not have a style tab in the format side bar, why?
I export the photos from Lightroom Classic in jpg format. I have tried large and small size and 240 & 72 resolution with no style tab to add a shadow or border.

Click once on the image on the slide, to select it, when selected the image will have 8 handles as shown below:
