Last backup on this mac: unknown

I already finished backing up my iphone in my Mac and after completing, I reset my phone.

Now I want to restore my backup , but it says last backup on this mac: unknown.

I'm sure backing up finished successfully.

also I found the backup folder on this path

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

but it doesn’t exists on finder

what should I do? 😭

please help!

I believe those files are created at the end of the iPhone backup. It appears that the backup did not finish normally, perhaps the phone was disconnected before it completed normally, for instance. Without them, the restore will not work. Also, one cannot selectively restore with the Apple iPhone restore tools - it restores the entire phone.


You can find some third party tools that claim to be able to extract items such as photo and video files from these backups. Also, if the backup was encrypted, I don't think there is any way to restore from such a partial or corrupted backup.

I suggest that you search online: "copy photos from iPhone backup"


You will see many options. I suggest you try several that offer a free trial, for instance some will allow you to copy a small number of photos with a free trial version of their software. I think some of these tools may need those very same files you say are missing, so some may not work. The free trial will let you see if the software works before buying it.
