i photo wont play videos from my iphone suddenly. Suggests Quick Time Player can convert the file (.mov). Then: QuickTime Player can't open "IMG_2339.MOV". Now what?

I use videos a lot. Take them on my phone and then edit and distribute them on my MacBookAir. Suddenly, iphoto won't play them; although they play on the phone. Message pops up to convert them (.mov files) with Quick Time Player. Quick Time Player goes through the motions, then "QuickTime Player can't open "IMG_2339.MOV". How do I access my videos on my laptop? Iphone 6SE IOS 13.5.1/MacBook OS 10.11.6
