Locked out of iPad.

Hi all,

I used my iPad yesterday afternoon, no issues. During the evening I could not use it, apart from unlocking. It needed Activation.

It says someone used Find My iPhone to link this iPad with their ID, which I definitely did not do. Also, it seems to be linked to an Apple ID which is not mine. I can't get in there with my own account.

(It's my mom's old iPad 2, which I wiped and set up as my own a couple years ago. It's also not her ID the iPad is asking me to use.)

If the iPad is disabled, you’ll need to follow this process:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT211078

Here is Apple’s information about the Activation Lock - and how to switch-off this feature:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201365

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201441

As you will discover, if the iPad has been activated and associated with an AppleID account that you do not control, you will need to secure the cooperation of the account owner to whom the device is locked. If you cannot secure their cooperation, you’ll not be able to technically defeat or bypass this security measure. In this situation, there is nothing that anyone here can do to help.

If you are the original owner - and have documentary evidence (i.e, the original sales invoice that shows the device serial number), then Apple may be able to assist.

Sorry, this is perhaps not the news that you we hoping to hear.

You have encountered Activation Lock a theft prevention feature. Without the Apple ID and Password used to set up the device, you will never be able to use it. We can't help and Apple won't help unless you can produce the original receipt which clearly shows the serial number. An iPad 2 is an obsolete device. Even if you do get it running, you will be disappointed as it cannot run the newer apps.Check these links for more information...
