Importing mini DV Video on Mac - (Canon GL2) - no sound, trying other options and need advice - Aimersoft, Wondershare Uniconverter

Hello -

I have read previous existing threads on using a Canon GL2 to import in iMovie and the loss of sound. The camera is not currently supported by iMovie. I am having limited success importing clips in Quicktime, but it is a spotty, hit and miss, time consuming process that involves some more than a bit of luck.

I am using the firewire to thunderbolt converter to connect the camera.

I have also just attempted trial versions of Aimersoft video converter Ultimate and Wondershare Uniconverter software because they were suggested by an Apple Multimedia support specialist yesterday via e-mail.

In both third party programs, when I go to the devices drop down menu and select "from camera," I am met with a screen that prompts me to connect my device with a USB cable, which I am unable to do because of the firewire to thunderbolt adapter. The camera is connected and powered on, but not recognized by wither company's software.

Does anyone have any other alternatives to get the DV footage from my camera to the mac successfully at this point?
