Difficulties logging into iTunes to update my apps

I'm at my whits end with this .... I have an apple ID username and password that all works fine if I log into my account on the internet but when I try to update my apps on my phone I am asked to sign into the iTunes store which I understand should be the same as my apple ID? It asks for only a pass word and when entered it says it is incorrect. In settings on the phone I have checked that the correct username is used and it is right.

Any help would really be appreciated

This may be your problem. See What to do when the Mac App Store shows a different Apple ID for software updates https://www.macworld.com/article/3267709/mac-app-store-apple-id.html. This document refers to a prior owner (use the discussion in it this is your situation), but is also applies to cases where a current owner's old Apple ID is the problem. The discussion below relates to the second possibility.

Basically, If an app is purchased/downloaded using one Apple ID, then you can't update it with a second Apple ID. The app is inextricably linked to the first Apple ID. You'll have to delete it and purchase/download it again with the second Apple ID unless you set up family sharing (see below).

You can set up family sharing between the IDs to share purchases made with them. See:

Try signing out of the App Store/iTunes, restart, and then sign back in. Check the updates to see if the apps requiring an update are in your Purchases History. If they aren't in your Purchases History, you can delete the app, and download it using your Apple ID if desired. If the apps are in your Purchases History, contact iTunes Support.
