Help! Spanish accents on Catalina 10.15.6 stopped.

Hello everyone,


Literally one second I was able to create Spanish accents using shift+option+E + the letter, and the next second it didn't work on Pages or the Internet. I tried rebooting and then refiguring keyboard settings, and neither worked. I can't do the work I do without those accents! So frustrating! Got any tips on how to fix it? Thanks!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

On the US keyboard, it's NOT "shift+option+E" that does this. Just "option+E." Does that not work?

One way to get the accents is to run the following command in Terminal and reboot:

defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true

Reboot required to activate

Change true to false to turn off


Now when you press and hold down the letter key you want to accent you'll get this:



Either click on the accent you want or press the number key shown below it.
