A large number of pictures have disappeared from my Photos iCloud

I have been taking pictures with my Apple phone since 2010, and storing them on iCloud (always purchased extra capacity), but it looks like entire years of photos have disappeared.

only pictures (If these years) “saved” into an Album or shared Album or flagged as favorite, have remained.

this is very frustrating. Anybody has ideas how to get these back?
