Screenshot disappears on iMac 2020 running Catalina

Thanks, I wouldn't have even known it would affect the functionality, or have anything to do with it...

BTW, it was even odder that I could save it into my documents folder, but if I dragged it out of there onto my desktop, it disappeared completely with a resounding "clunk". I thought it was going into the trash, but nothing in there.

Are all these screenshots existing somewhere else? - I'm thinking wormhole to parallel universe.

I spoke too soon. "Desktop & Documents Folders" is enabled, and I had success the other day, but now, even with box checked, screenshots disappear. I can save them to the documents folder, but not to desktop.

Ahhh, now it saves to desktop. Why is this not on by default? An odd Catalina thing?

There is one for iCloud Drive, but no screenshots are in there.

Tested again. Screenshot shows briefly on the desktop and then disappears.

Yup, that's where they all went. How do I disable this?
