Why isn’t my home button working?

Home button doesn’t work and pop-ups keep coming up about unable to use touch ID touch ID failed to update.

here are some clues:

  • first generation iPhone SE
  • no obvious correlations like replacing the screen or replacing the home button
  • stopped suddenly but not after any iOS update
  • had transferred info to a new iPhone SE approximately two months earlier which continues to work well with the touch ID and has no problems with the home button
  • restart phone reset to factory settings has not helped
  • cleaning the button with rubbing alcohol has not helped
  • have yet to test punching it like Mike Tyson as possible fix

iPhone SE, iOS 13

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store or take it to your local authorized service provider.

Failing that, call AppleCare and arrange for mail in service.
