Just about any monitor is compatible, all Macs support at least one external display up to some resolution (HD for older macs, 4K or higher and >1 display for newer ones). You may need an adapter to connect, but the adapter you need will depend on the model of MBA you have (you mention Thunderbolt, if your MBA has a TB1 or TB2 port then a mini-displayport connector works in it) and the monitor's input (usually DisplayPort or HDMI).
