It is really crazy what you have to do in order to enable dictation with the magic keyboard. Isn’t there something that is easier than typing out emoji in order to get the microphone to open? Couldn’t you, meaning Apple, enable a Siri command or something like that?

Thank you! All of our complaining seems to have worked. One of the recent updates put a little keyboard icon in the lower right corner. Click it and you get a choice of 4 inputs including the dictation icon. Now I couldn't live without my Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro. It really works now. I have multiple inputs: keyboards (2), pencil and voice. They all work together fabulously.

yep that works too. So there are two easy ways one is the double click of the control key and the other is to look for the little keyboard icon in the lower right hand corner of the page. I am now a happy camper. I love the flexibility that the magic keyboard provides I leave it plugged in most of the time but whenever I need to move around I am able to just on snap it from its mount and move about.It really maximizes the use of the keyboard that makes my iPad Pro much more efficient as a device because of the multiple inputs provided by the keyboard screen and Apple Pencil.

Totally agree. For me the lack of easy access to dictation makes the magic keyboard (and thus the ipad) completely unusable.
To use dictation on the Magic Keyboard without invoking the on-screen keyboard, go to ‘Settings - Keyboard - Dictation Shortcut and choose the key to use. I use a ‘double tap’ of the Control key.
Talking about the iPad not the mac
So am I. I’m using an iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard and I can now invoke dictation with a double tap of the ‘control’ key.

I just started searching/just found out that (on mine at least. I’m on iOS 14.2) you just double tap “Control”
