Apple ID password for my MacBookPro. Cannot know why I sign on the new password (only my old pw) and do not know why this happens since the new pw is on iCloud

When I changed my Apple ID, it works for iCloud but when I restart my MacBookPro to sign on the password , it is still the OLD password. First time this has happened and I cannot figure out why. Never happened before so what am I doing?
