blacscreen - 2017 MacBook Pro

Is anyone else experiencing this? There seems to be an issue with the 2016 and 2017 models - a faulty cable in the display? I read something about a class action suit online. I was having some issues with horizontal lines on display but computer otherwise functioned fine. However, when I opened my computer last night all I saw was a black screen. I followed all of the reboot instructions online but this is a display issue. Finally I got it so I can now get my screen to display but only when open at a 45 degree angle. Computer works fine, it's just the display. Made an appointment with apple repair. So frustrated that this is a known issue but only recognized by Apple for 2016 MacBook Pro models. It's apparently an $800 "fix" and could happen again so not even worth the expense. Apple please cover this for 2017 models too!

Thank you. Unfortunately Apple does not support this issue with 2017 models MacBook Pros, only 2016 which makes no sense since they are built exactly the same way. Maybe Apple will add later models as those display flex cables begin to erode with regular use (e.g., opening and closing lids) like they did in the ‘16 models. I have an apt with a certified repair shop in four days...earliest apt in my area. I will update thread then with their assessment and cost to repair.

I have exactly the same issue although in my case its a complete blackout with some lighting on display. Within a year of purchase i had exactly same issue and Apple replaced it for free as it was covered. I purchased extended warranty too but it got expired on 30th September 2020 and I am facing this within 15 days of expiring.(this is really disappointing)

Local technicians say that this problem will occur again depending on the frequency of the lid opening and closing. There is no permanent fix to this. Let me know if you are planning on something to fix it or have a better solution or if apple reached out as i am so not gonna pay 800$ to fix the issue which may arise again and again.(This is the case for all the models after 2016)

Same!!! And I gave up because our Apple stores were still closed two months ago when it finally wouldn't even show anything at the 45 degree angle like you mentioned. I used an external monitor for a bit which i read and it did work but I couldn't save files or find the mouse 80% of the time.

Sadly I had to purchase another two months ago and so I am waiting until this is covered in the lawsuit or put on the recall program or whatever is happening. Where can we get up to date info on all of this, do you know?

Everytime I try to schedule for service it says no spots available as it only shows a week out. Kind of a moot point anyway since we'd have to pay for it I read somewhere and it can be upwards of $600.

I just want to get it fixed so I can sell it as it's worthless now with the screen like that.

Also, I called for help and after 30 min of her swearing she could fix it with rebooting and trying holding down all these buttons while doing so, it still didn't work. She offered the option of them sending a box for me to send in and after we had it all set up, she said they needed a credit card to put a $500 hold on in case the repair had to be made. At which point, I cancelled the whole thing!
