Mouse malfunctions when external monitor is plugged in to MacBook Air

I have a MacBook Air (2015). The screen size is small, so I have purchased a Samsung external monitor so I can see my clearly. However whenever I connect the monitor, the mouse cursor goes crazy and makes the monitor unusable.

The cursor enlarges and bolts all over the external screen.

When I disconnect the monitor, my bluetooth mouse and trackpad mouse work fine.

Can anyone explain this and advise me if there is a way to fix it please?

Thanks
