MacBook Pro - keyboard seems ok BUT command key, option keys do nothing....they move physically. Don't show on the keyboard in system

MacBook Pro, Catalina most recent; keys used to work, now the command and option keys do not work (they depress fine, but show nothing, also the online keyboard options in system or preferences shows every key but not these. sure feels like a software issue

The "Old" keyboard viewer in Mojave and earlier darkened those keys when pressed.


The "new" keyboard viewer has been merged with accessibility keyboard. In that keyboard, those keys become outlined in red when pressed, which is much more subtle and easy to miss.


Which are you using, and do you have a real operation problem, or you just see a different operation?
