ipad pro with pencil 2 keyboard issues after iOS 14.0.1 update

I have a ipad pro with pencil 2. I just updated to iOS 14.0.1. My text input in most applications is now screw up. It defaults to the pencil, I can ultimately make a keyboard appear after taping on the small bar at the bottom of the screen and make a miniature keyboard appear (first tap nothing, second tap a minimized keyboard, third tap a small miniature keyboard about a third the size of the screen). The apple pencil is always live (I touch the screen and a scratch inserts in my text).

I can't make the keyboard size to come up by default, not can't I get a normal size keyboard to come up (in most cases, although once or twice the full size keyboard did come up). What gives?

Having updated to iPadOS14, you have a new feature - Scribble. After update, this is enabled by default - and enables text input, using the Pencil, using natural handwriting.

To disable this feature:

Settings > Apple Pencil > Scribble - set to OFF

I’m delighted that the initial behaviour problem has been resolved by disabling the unwanted feature.

When new features are introduced, they are generally enabled by default. For the iPadOS launch, Scribble and the new style Widgets were front-and-centre.

Thanks. It fixed it.

Surprising that this mode that is introduced by default is not clearly detailed in the new features of this software update. (don't tell me it is, I go through the update text in full and all the tips)

Also surprising that I could not find any other complaints or fixes for this issue.

It is also puzzling that the keyboard sometimes comes in full, seems more often the case in landscape mode. It is random. And then you when I want to switch to keyboard and tap on it, then nothing, tap again and the minimized icon appears, tap again and nothing happens, tap again and for a fraction of a second a larger keyboard flashes but settles to a small keyboard, tap again and keyboard is gone, tap again and the small keyboard appears, then on and off for each tap.

This feature seems rushed and incomplete, I should easily be able to use scribble AND keyboard!!! Too bad, the scribble feature SUCKS (!!) for now until it is patched properly. Really looks bad on Apple which I am not used to see rush in a feature so badly developed.
