Why can’t we decide when we down load updates so they don’t interfere with our daily activities

Why can we the user decide when to download updates so they will not mess our equipment up when we are using them in the daytime, auto Down loads can take days,I get booted out os apps. Wen this happen, it’s really trouble for me cause I am trying to make a living on my I pad . My employer told me to get it together soon I like the Proust I am using .Yet I am not willing to lose my job for apples short fall, this means for me a bog expense for I have ,I pad, and lap top , and I am more than sure Apple will not reemburse me for ,even though it is there problem

Then turn off automictic download - that would be the most common thing to do, then you can update the ios or apps at your leisure.
