iMac software downloads

My iMac has suddenly stopped downloading anything from the internet.

It's a 2019 iMac running Catalina 10.15.6, purchased recently, and I'm using Chrome as my browser. I am trying to download a copy of Photoshop Elements 2020 which I just purchased online, because I got a message saying that my Photoshop 2015 software isn't compatible with this system.

However when I try to download Photoshop 2020, nothing happens. I've checked the download folder and done a search for it.

So I went back to trying to uninstall photoshop 2015, but nothing happens when I click on the uninstaller. Searching for solutions, the Adobe website told me to download a copy of Adobe Application Manager. I did a search on my iMac and found a copy of this already in my applications utility folder, but when I try to open it, I get an error message stating that it's a 32-bit app and I can't use it on this new iMac.

So I tried to download a NEW copy of Adobe Manager, but it won't download either.

I CAN download photos in my email, and an xls file from our website.

I checked online for reasons why this may be happening, and one suggestion was to check my storage, but I have 138 GB of 251 GB available, so it's not that.

I need to use Photoshop for work today, and I'm beyond frustration. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem? Many thanks.

Have you tried downloading with Safari?

Another tact to take is to boot into Safe Mode (How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support) by booting with the Shift key held down and download and install from there. Then reboot normally\.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.

One thing which appears to not be commonly known is that not all browsers work equally on all sites, or with upgraded operating systems. This is often because the site developers often write their software for only certain browsers. When that happens, there is nothing we can do to correct the problem. The result is that we will often need to have more than one browser. I hope this helps to explain what may be happening.
