Apple TV app crashing on FireStick

I've had the ATV app on my firestick since launch and never had any issue watching a movie I purchased via the Library section.


However, for the last several weeks whenever I try to watch any movie I've purchased. The movie will play for around 30-60 seconds and then all of a sudden artifacts appear on the screen and then a few seconds later the app crashes and forces the FireStick to reboot.


I've reverted the FireStick TV settings to default which had no impact and I received the same result. I also tried purging the app data and cache, but get again get the same problem. Finally, I removed the app, reinstalled and yet, again the ATV app crashes and reboots.


Both the app and FireStick are up-to-date so does anyone have any idea what could cause this. As the app was working perfectly fine until about July/early August.

Update:


In case anyone else is having this issue I found a workaround by going to the app's settings and enabling playback using SD. Since enabling I have been able to play all movies and shows in my library without any issue. So the problem is definitely related to the app itself and not the Firestick.


It is also not related to my internet speed as I am on 1gbps with the FireStick connected via ethernet.


Hope this helps others who have this issue.
