Apple Watch Family Share: My son's Apple Watch App Store keeps asking for apple ID password

I just gave my 10 year old son an apple watch that uses MY iPhone for the watch app. This is a new family share feature to give kid's a watch without an iPhone. He has all of the starter apps on his phone but he is having problems downloading new apps from the app store on his apple watch. It keeps asking him for his Apple ID password. Even when he enters it, it just cycles back to "get" app and then Apple ID password request. His watch is connected to MY Apple ID through the watch app on my iPhone. Does anyone know how to fix this.

I resolved the problem. The bottom line is that all of the apple devices that my son uses with his AppleID must have updated software. If the other devices are on an older version of OSX the they won't properly support the new Family option on the Apple watch. My son has an iPad and a Macbook Air. The Macbook Air is a few years old and he hadn't updated OSX in a long while. When setting up the Apple Watch it told me to update the MacBook Air software, which I did; however, I didn't realize that the software update was to Mojave and not to Catalina. So the MacBook Air was still not up to the most recent OSX version. The problem was solved when I updated the MacBook Air again to the most recent version of Catalina.
