Loose hinge on MacBook Pro 16" ?

My 16" MacBook Pro display (lid) closes by itself when the angle with the base is <30°. However this only happens when I have my thin hardshell clamped on. i.e When the case is removed, the lid needs to be pushed all the way down to fully close the device.

Is this normal behaviour for the hinge or has mine become weakened over time due to the use of the hard shell? (hardshell itself was purchased at an apple store)

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 10.15

Well I can tell since I had mine both ways that with the hard shell it doesn't change any way with the support of the lid. No matter if the shell is on it or not, the computer screen holds the same angle when it is put in that location. My hard shell is very thin and hardly weighs anything at all, but it does not make a difference if it is on or off. I can't imagine that it would really wear the hinges out unless it was really weighty but even at that more of what would wear out the hinges is constantly opening and closing the screen. It may just need some tightening or replacement and can be easily taken care of if that's what is needed, but honestly I don't think that it wearing out the hinge in any way....They usually aren't that heavy and don't strain things all that much
