Please help! I’ve recently had a new 2020 iPad but I can’t edit excel on my free account but I am able to on my older iPad Air and my iPhone X.

It is correct that you cannot edit an Excel document with Excel without a Microsoft Account. It sounds as if you may have had an account and were not aware of it. You would need to contact Microsoft about a subscription account, or if you have an account through your school or work. I'm not sure what you were or are doing on an older device, but I'm sure it must be logged in. Microsoft does not allow for editing files without an account on mobile devices.
