Apple One iCloud Storage

To make sure I understand correctly, the amount of Apple One iCloud storage is divided among the family members sharing the plan (ie. 200GB divided by 4 members or 50GB each)?

Thanks

No, it isn't actually divided in any way.

There's nothing to stop a person from exceeding 50GB if that's what you mean. 1 person could have 80GB of stuff, another only 10GB, a third person could have 100GB, and the fourth person only use 5GB, and you are still under the 200GB limit.

Its entirely up to you to monitor what each person uses.

Thanks this is very helpful.

Your last statements says that it is up to the user to monitor what each member uses, what happens if the hypothetical 200GB example is exceeded? Will iCloud stop any storage over 200GB?

Just asking, if this is the case it might make sense to go straight to the 2T storage as opposed to trying 200GB and seeing if it is enough.

Just a thought.

Thanks

Yes. If the added total is over 200GB, it will no longer store anything else, and not perform any backups. Basically when the combined storage space used gets to 200GB, iCloud will issue a message about low storage and none of the members will be able to store anything else regardless of how much storage they are themselves using.

It won't automatically upgrade you to the next higher plan if that is what you mean.
