When my wife texts me I do not get an alert. How can I fix this?
Are you sharing an Apple ID? That can cause such a problem.
Have you muted her texts? Go to the main Messages page. Put your finger on the conversation with your wife and pull to the left. Does it say "Show Alerts"? If so, tap that.

Go back to the main page of Messages, not within the conversation itself.
