Mac Mini (M1) 2020, LG UHD monitor flickers on dark colours.

Can anyone recommend a 32inch monitor for photo editing at around $600 that doesn't have these flickering issues?

I was considering buying a BenQ PD32OOU, does anyone know if this has the same issues?

Same problems here with my PHILIPS monitor. But I can replicate the problem under Windows 10. But it takes much more effort to find the flicker triggering color. And there is no flickering but static vertical lines on Win10. Running M1 mini on 4K HDR 65” TV causes no problem. So I am confused same as you.

Has there been any official (or even unofficial) fixed for this issue? I have M1 Mini and Benq 2780 and I get a screen flicker intermittently I can only describe it as like the brightness of the display wobbling. Have turned off all auto brightness /day / night settings replaced cables no change.

Nothing that I've seen. You'd think 10 pages of comments of people having the same issues would kick off something on their end but it's been crickets from Apple. I REALLY don't want to sell this M1 Mini and go back to Windows but I'm beyond frustrated with the issue.

I have the exact same problem. Flickering and sometimes vertical lines on the dark colours. M1 Mac Mini connected to LG 27GL650F-B new Monitor. For so long and I have read so many comments on the same issues of this Mac MINI since last year.

Why Apple cant solve this problem? It's so annoying, Frustrating and regretful of buying this Mac Mini M1.

What do these monitors have in common? Are they all VA? Do all of them work at the edge of their parameters? All of them are lower end equipment? Who is the display manufacturer? All 4K? My PHILIPS works flowless while upscaling. Were are monitors really ready for full 4K load (manufacturer lied they are really 4K)?

I can confirm that the Samsung LU28R550UQUXEN is also affected. It's fine most of the time but there are some windows or content it does not like that flicker like crazy. It might be more usable than other monitors as it took me a couple weeks of use before I actually noticed the issue for the first time.

I just got the LG UN850-W 27” 4K - no flickering, vertical lines or other issues so far. BUT - HDR is not working! Enabling HDR gives me washed out colors and when I try to play an HDR video (recorded via iPhone), the window goes black.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I don't believe that it is an M1 issue though, as you see reports of the same thing from Intel Mac users (which is not the case for the flickering/vertical lines). For me I don't have much need for HDR so I don't really care. The display looks great without it -- *almost* as nice as the 5K iMac.

After seeing a video of the extent of the issue on other monitors, I would review my rating of LU28R550UQUXEN as "mostly working". As I said it took several week not notice a flickering issue. I've seen only seen a dark screen flickering a couple times (and I'm mostly using dark mode). I found this subject because I do have an annoying recurring flickering issue when using in OBS Virtual Cam preview when displayed in the target app but I'm now thinking it could be software related and might have nothing to do with the discussed issue.

I will definitely be updating the community regarding this replacement. I am hopeful only if the replacement logic board is of a different version/build. If it is just the same, and if the problem is persistent with mac mini M1, then BenQ should also update their website as they marked their displays as M1-compatible/supported. Perhaps we can compile a list of displays with "compatibility" issues with mac mini M1, including fixes (if there are).

It would be interesting to know if it also works with BENQ EL2870U. I had this monitor before and it was flackering with M1, and I have never tried to use the display port input. I have replaced this monitor with another one to solve the issue, so I can not test it any longer. I believe if it works it could help many people.

I have not found a way to send 4k to a 4k screen with scaling on a 27" monitor without text etc looking too small/too big. Windows 10 does this fine with ease but apple insists on doubling whatever the non retina resolution is. E.g on a iMac 22" its 1920x 1080 doubled which is exactly 4k 3840 x 2160 this is perfect if you own a 22" 4K monitor but if you own a 27" monitor apple is expecting you to connect a 27" 5k monitor which is double the correct scaling for that display base of 2560x1440. The industry standard for a 27" is 4k. 5k ones are $$$ and rare.
