AirPods making crackling/popping sounds

I have 2nd generation AirPods that have recently started making a crackling/popping sound when I am connected to my 2013 generation MacBook Pro. It happens on these that I've tried so far: Spotify, Netflix, Zoom, Youtube, iTunes/Music. However, it does not do it when it's connected to my iPhone 11. I've checked and both iPhone and MacBook are up to date. I've restarted my MacBook, reset my AirPods then reconnected it to both my iPhone and MacBook, turned off the bluetooth off and on. Any other ideas I can try?
