Photos and Videos linking issues to original files

Ok, i'll do the best I can to explain this...

If I import files (Photos and Videos) from a external drive or even the desktop and after importing these in Photos for the Mac, and I remove the original files, the videos wont play as the original file is missing and the photos are low res and want the original file.

Is there a setting im missing. I dont remember having this issue before.

As soon as I place the files back from where I imported them its fine.

Yes if I import from the go pro, iphone, and drone and i delete the SD card after import the files are fine.

Anyone know whats going on??

You can also try to consolidate the files.

Create a smart album (file > New Smart Album) with the rule "Photo > is > referenced".

This smart album will show you all items that have not been copied into your Photos Library. Create the smart album to check, if you missed items that still need consolidating.

To consolidate all items by copying them safely into the library select all items in the smart album with ⌘A, then use the command "File > Consolidate". This will copy the referenced files into the library and save all metadata you added or adjustments you applied.
