I change the appearance in the settings but the phone will not change from dark mode . Is there something I am missing ?

Which setting did you change? Is it on Automatic? Did you turn on Light Mode? Please explain exactly what you are trying to do and what you are doing to get it done. Do you wish to manually switch, or automatically switch?
I fixed it ..had to shut off smart invert
