My Bluetooth cannot see my home pod. What am I doing wrong?

HomePod and HomePod mini make use of Apple's AirPlay 2 protocol. They are not conventional Bluetooth speakers. Bluetooth is used during set up and perhaps hand off but isn't used for music playback. You can AirPlay from iTunes and Apple iOS devices.
