Microsoft Office

MS are advising that my office 2016 is no longer supported for updates and that I need to pay an annual sub. Not happy with that.

Can I

  1. purchase the Apple equivalent which is hopefully a one off payment ??? .
  2. Would it be compatible with my current Word and Excel files.

Inge247, You can purchase Office Home and Business 2019 for a one time cost. Go to the Microsoft Office 365 site and scroll to the bottom of the page. Microsoft would prefer that you subscribe but you don't have to.

Apple includes as part of the operating systems Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Which are Apple's equivalent of Word, Excel and Powerpoint. These apps will open current word, excel and powerpoint documents. If you have further questions about Pages, Numbers and Keynote just ask.

I hope this helps.

Your welcome and yes I know they are substancially different. Apple provides a lot of help on each if you get stuck and there are Apple hosted help forums for those apps too.

I also found a book that may be helpful, it's a bit outdated but I'm sure it is still relevant:

You can upgrade to Office for Mac 2019 (1 time purchase of $149 from Microsoft) or you can subscribe to Office 365.

If you own a Mac, chances are very high you are eligible for Apples: Pages, Numbers, Keynote apps. These are likely free and read and write MS Office files. Simply look in the Applications folder and see if you already have them, if not then open the Mac App Store and get them there.
