Find my iPhone

I am wanting to add my sons iPhone to find my iPhone app. I am wanting to monitor his location and was wondering if I could add his phone to the find my iPhone app since I pay the bill?

To exercise parental controls you need to have his phone on a family plan ➡️ What is Family Sharing? - Apple Support.

If his Apple ID is part of your family plan it should appear in Find My. Otherwise, he will have to authorize it.

I’m suspicious of his activities and wanted to see if there was a way I can track him without him knowing.
