Should I exert more pressure if the USB c adapter does not accept my USB A or standard cable?

If you are using the Apple USB-C adapters and are having trouble connecting an older style USB-A connector, then it can be a bit tighter than most other USB connections. First make sure you have the USB-A connectors in the correct direction so that the open space inside one of them lines up with the solid area in the second one. If they are aligned properly, then give them a little more force to connect them. Don't go to extreme force though.

As said, make sure the connector is in the correct orientation and push.
Mine too is quite tight :-)
I went to the local Apple Store. An associate was less fearful of causing damage and exerted more pressure; and the USB connector was received by the USB C adapter.
