Ho to install HP laser jet pro 1020 plus when drivers not available for Mac OS Big Sur

Hi, recently I updated OS on iMac to macOS Big Sur ver 11.1. Had a HP laser jet 1020 plus printer. No drivers available for this printer either with HP or apple. Printing is not possible. Please suggest any solution.

Hello,

Have you tried to reset the printing system (see steps in link below) and re-add the printer, using an HP LaserJet 1022 (1.6.1) driver from the Dec 11, 2020 post date HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for macOS package download at https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US ? Choose the 1022 driver in the Use: field when adding.

This may or may not work with your exact printer 1020 (plus) version, so look upon it as an experiment.

Also, some people have had success by installing print drivers for Catalina. I would try it. Does your printer have the Air Print option. If so, you can use that and no drivers are needed. Last, you can visit the link below and check to see if a driver is there which might work. It has drivers for older non supported printers which are written by volunteers. It's worth a link. Good luck.

I have to tell you that this problem is not due to Apple in any way. Please stop and think for a moment. Apple does not own or have access to HP's software, or for that matter, any of the thousands of models and versions of printers around the world. What it does do is to keep HP and other vendors appraised of all new changes to its OS. Then it it is up to the printer providers to update their drivers to be functionally compliant. Not that hard to do. In summary, the problem here is HP. Speaking personally here, I will never, ever buy another HP product based on the very poor support they have provided to literally hundreds of users who have posted here on this forum how HP has failed to provide printer drivers in a timely manner and sometimes not at all. All you can do is to lean on HP. There is a possible alternative. The link below has a lot of printer drivers written by volunteer professional to support older printers. Check it out. There may be one there that works for you.
