How to grant access to child’s contacts in Family Sharing

I am trying to view my child’s iMessages on my phone. In Family Sharing it is showing a Pending Status when I try to manage contacts. How do I grant access?

How do I get the status to update from Pending? My child’s iPhone did not receive a notification. Thank you

Hey, Toni,

I've got this same exact issue (x3 kids with new Apple Watches for which I'm still trying to sort out family sharing).

I don't have an answer for you, but I can at least confirm that you're not the only one seeing this. For all three of my kids, when I try to switch on Manage [blank]'s Contacts, I see that "Pending" status and a message that "Contact management request sent to [name]". But I have so far been unable to figure out where, if anywhere, the system is supposedly sending this request.

What I've found around here is that invariably, when a question is posted that doesn't have a completely obvious answer, users looking to boost their level/score (for what reason, I truly have no idea) rush in to answer, quickly misread your issue as something wholly different that what you wrote, and then offer up useless links to completely unrelated knowledge base articles. This is less than zero help. If I post a question, I hope for a) a helpful answer or solution, b) others confirming that my problem is, at least, not unique.... and waaaaay down the list z) presumptuous responses to a question I never asked and a problem I don't have.

So, for right now, all I can offer is confirmation that others (read: me) are indeed seeing this problem. I hope that's at least of some value.

And if I find out more, I'll certainly let you know.

Cheers.

Where in Screen Time?

On my iPhone, where I set it up?

On the Watches somewhere?

I don't see any such request, anywhere.

And "Screen Time" appears to be a total mess as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't appear to report any activity, I can't see Family Members as People under Find My ("No location found" it says... I can only see their devices), I can't grant universal access for Mac use during "Downtime"... I have to sit there and enter the Screen Time password EVERY TIME THEY OPEN A NEW APP OR VISIT A DIFFERENT WEBSITE.) It's the worst implementation of anything I have ever seen. It's beyond amateurish.

So, anyways, with that out of the way, I'm still looking for this request to appear... because all I've seen since Christmas Day is "Pending".

Thanks. Although I'm just about done with this disaster of a product. I've got until the end of January to return these to Amazon.
