iMac as a monitor for the new Mac mini M1

I am looking into using my expiring 27" late 2013 iMac as a monitor with a Mini M1. Will the Mini be able to access the iMac's camera for video conferencing? Does it need a separate connection from the Thunderbolt cable that will run the display?

The 2020 M1 Mac mini can't use a Thunderbolt iMac as a display.
