Apple TV problems

I’m trying to set up the Apple ID on my Apple TV, but the typing thing on the tv isn’t showing up for when I have to put in the verification code, that it sends my phone. Is there anyway to fix this

On Apple TV (4th generation or later) the request for a verification code would have its own field to enter it in.
