Apple Watch SE heart rate data

What can I do to get the watch to record accurate heart rate info during a run? For the first 8-12 minutes, the data shows a constant, incredibly elevated heart rate (~190bpm). Thereafter, it seems to begin recording what would be accurate data. I see the same problem in both the Apple Workouts app and Strava. More curious, if I simply check my heart rate using the heart rate module, it shows a normal value, so it seems that the sensor is functional.

Hey mercjfr,

We see you are getting inconsistent results during your workouts from your Apple Watch.

To get the best readings from Apple Watch we first recommend checking your fit, it should be snug but sit comfortably against your wrist:

After adjusting your fit if needed, take a look at the tips here to calibrate the Apple Watch to get the most consistent readings form the device:

If you still notice inconsistencies towards the beginning of your work out, feel free to reply to this post.

Cheers!

Hi mercjfr,

Thanks for confirming.

If this issue persists after calibrating, and is consistent with when it happens, we'd recommend unpairing your Apple Watch and then setting it up again. A backup is created during the unpair process to preserve your data, and you'll have the option to restore that data when setting the Apple Watch up again.

See the steps to take here:

After setting the Apple Watch back up, start another workout at your convenience to test the issue. If the same thing happens, we'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support for additional assistance.

Take care.

Hi. Thanks for the tips. I believe I am wearing it correctly (as evidenced by valid data most of the time). I also have followed the calibration steps, so I think this is different than a calibration issue. I get plenty of valid data, just not for the first 8-12 minutes of workouts, as you can see from the screenshots I posted earlier. All of my subsequent workouts exhibit the same profile.
