I am needing to connect my MacBookAir mid2012 13" to a PC monitor and am not sure what cable/adapter to use

Use the appropriate Mini DisplayPort to VGA or DVI Adapter.

If you need an HDMI adapter then you will need to use a third party adapter since I don't think Apple has the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter.
