This is the super drive that Apple sells - brand new. It doesn't work and I see in info about it that if the computer has an internal drive it won't work. But in my case, I need it to work. The internal drive has been replaced when under warranty but is no longer under warranty. So I would like to use the external drive.

Yes, buy almost any external optical drive and plug it into a USB port.
