AirPlay display stuck on OFF

Hey maja42,

We see you're attempting to use an AirPlay compatible display or device with your MacBook Pro, is that correct?

If so, take a moment to go to System Preferences > Displays. At the bottom you'll see an option for AirPlay. From the dropdown list, is the display you'd like to use available?

That is correct, yes.

If there are no eligible devices, you'll only see "Off" listed as an option. The Mac will automatically detect when a compatible device is available on your Wi-Fi network and then show it as an option at that point.

Thanks for the screenshot. If the Sony TV is not initially setup for use with AirPlay, it won't show under AirPlay Display.

Once your Mac detects a compatible display, it will appear in the dropdown list. If you've toggled AirPlay on in your Sony TV, but it still won't show on your Mac, take a moment to restart your network. That includes the TV, MacBook and the router.

After that, confirm AirPlay is turned on for the Sony TV and it's on the same Wi-Fi network as the MacBook Pro. From there you should see it as a selectable option for AirPlay Display if it is compatible.

Thanks for clarifying.

Some models of Sony TV may not be compatible with AirPlay. Additionally, the feature may need to be enabled in the TV itself for it to be seen by your MacBook Pro.
