Using 2011 iMac as display for Mac Mini (M1)

Hi all,

Have just tried connecting iMac 2011 as a display for the Mac Mini, using an Apple Thunderbolt Cable and an Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor.

Plugged in, connected to correct ports, all switched on - pressed CMD+F2 and was dazzled by the lack of anything at all happening.

Can anyone suggest where I might be gong wrong?

(PS 2011 iMac is running El Capitan 10.11.6, Mac Mini is running Big Sur)

Cheers, CB

Then I have bought the Mac Mini in vain, because the whole reason for getting it was to use the iMac as its display. Does Apple still sell older Mac Minis which offer this Target Diplay functionality?

Thanks

CB
