Airpods Pro Connection Issues

Hi,

I have a few issues with my recently purchased airpods pro.

Phone is iPhoneSE (2020) and computer is a Macbook Air (early 2014) with Big Sur.

Issues are:

1) Pods connected to the Mac, me listening to music. Phone rings, pods switch automatically to phone (as expected). I end my phone conversation, music is resumed on the Mac but using the Mac’s speakers and not the pods. Have to disconnect and re-connect the pods to the Mac when this happens;

2) Pods shows as connected on Mac in the bluetooth preferences but they are not. I can set up noise cancellation etc. from the Mac, but music plays through the speakers. Have to disconnect and connect also in this case in order to make them work.

3) Pods connected to the Mac, me unlocking the phone, e.g. for reading a message. Music is not played thorough pods anymore

Thank you for your support.

Hello again fedeswala,

Thanks for checking that for us. Now let's sure everything is up-to-date for you. Follow the steps here to check and update each device if needed:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

How to update the software on your Mac

We also want to make sure that the firmware on the AirPods Pro is current. On the iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods. Tap "i", then scroll down to the About section to see the firmware version. If you're not using version 3A283, follow these steps in order:

  1. Make sure the AirPods are within Bluetooth range of their companion iPhone or MacBook.
  2. Listen to music or other audio content with the AirPods for at least 30 seconds.
  3. Put the AirPods back in the charging case and close the lid.
  4. Use the Lightning cable to connect the charging case to power. Wait 30 minutes. Then reconnect the AirPods to the iPhone or MacBook.
  5. Check the firmware version again. If the version shown still isn't the latest version, repeat these steps again.

Let us know the outcome, and we can go from there if needed.

Good luck!

Hey fedeswala,

Thanks for that information. Let's look into one more thing. Are you using two-factor authentication with your Apple ID? Get more info on that if needed here:

Two-factor authentication for Apple ID

And are both the iPhone SE and MacBook Air signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID and password? If so, and you are using two-factor authentication, the next steps is to get in touch with Apple Support for further assistance:
